How much do you think a cup of iced water cost? At what price were you being charged for it too?
The Ministry of Domestic Trade and Consumer Affairs (KPDNHEP) had recently issued 84 notices against restaurants nationwide for charging more than RM1 for a glass of plain water.
The operation was named “Ops Catut 8.0 (Plain Water)” and the authorities are currently carrying out checks on the prices of plain water, or sky juice in high-end restaurants, fast food joints, franchises, eateries and stalls across the country till 15 April.
According to Deputy Minister, Datuk Rosol Wahid, he said that plain water should not be charged at a sky-rocketed price, and in his opinion, a more appropriate price would be between RM0.20 or RM0.30.
During the operation, they’ve issued 84 notices where Kelantan recorded the highest number with 14, followed by Selangor (12), Sabah (8), Sarawak (8), Johor (8), Pahang (7), Terengganu (6), Kuala Lumpur (5), Melaka (4), Federal Territory of Labuan (3), Penang (3), Perlis (2), Perak (2) and Negeri Sembilan (2).
Datuk Rosol Wahid added that traders who are issued with the notice will be given 2 to 5 working days to provide the information required by KPDNHEP before further action is taken in accordance with the Price Control and Anti -Profiteering Act 2011.
