The British band, Coldplay has yet to perform in Malaysia but they are about to sponsor our country with the Ocean Cleaners. Coldplay, has always been an advocate for the environment and they would even refusing to tour over environmental issues of the country.
Now, they are taking it further by partnering with the Ocean Cleanup, a Dutch non-profit organisation to clean the rivers of Malaysia. The equipment that will be used in the process is a new river Interceptor called Neon Moon 1 (Interceptor 005).
“Without action, there could be more plastic than fish in the oceans by 2050, which is why The Ocean Cleanup’s work is so vital. We’re proud to sponsor Interceptor 005 which will catch thousands of tons of waste before it reaches the ocean,” they shared in a statement, according to Bernama.
Coldplay even took their efforts to Facebook and share that they have a goal to reducing floating ocean plastic by 90% by 2040.
Keeping our rivers clean requires effort from all parties. Cleaning the river is one, and maintain it is another. Since we’ve got help in cleaning, we should play our role and stop littering or throwing rubbish into our rivers.
Together, we’ll have clean water for everyone and generations to come.
