The law is above all and even the King needs to obey the law in Malaysia.
Yesterday (15 March), several police officers were fined during a surprise spot check at the entrance gate of the Kedah police contingent headquarters (IPK).
Authorities had conducted multiple inspections which includes the examination of private documents, vehicle inspection, and safety pass inspection.
According to Harian Metro, police officers and civil servants of the IPK were found to have breached the traffic law such as using ‘fancy’ number plate registration that does not follow the specifications prescribed by the law.
It was reported that Kedah Traffic Investigation and Enforcement Department had performed checks on 128 cars dan 116 motorcycles while the state Special Branch checked 160 cars and 99 motorcycles .
Whereas the Integrity and Standard Compliance Department was involved in the spot check and they inspected a total of 22 people.
According to Section 108(3) of the Road Transport Act 1987,
“If any person exhibits on any motor vehicle any licence or identification mark, plate or document which does not belong to such vehicle, he shall be guilty of an offence and shall on conviction be liable to a fine of not less than RM5,000 and not more than RM20,000 or to imprisonment for a term of not less than one year and not exceeding five years or to both.”
Meanwhile, Section 14(4) states:
“If a registration number is not displayed in accordance with this section, the driver or person in charge of the vehicle while it is being used shall be guilty of an offence and shall on conviction be liable to a fine of not less than RM300 and not more than RM3,000.”
